Snapbacks Are Back

Posted by

They are back and better than ever. The snapback is the hat that has the snapback closure, so that you can adjust it to fit. Back in the day, snapback hats were less expensive and more popular than fitted hats. Today, manufactures, such as New Era, American Needle, Mitchell & Ness or 47 Brand make good quality snapbacks in many different styles. Usually, snapbacks refer to hats with professional team affiliations. There are others, however. Many clothing manufactures make them as well. By the time you take into account MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, NCAA and non-sport designs there are thousands of hats to choose from.

Nobody knows if this style will remain popular, or for how long. Based on the number of hats being offered it appears that the major players are banking on them being around for quite a while. New Era alone offers over 50 designs.

When selecting a hat for yourself or as a gift there are so many to choose from, that there is more to consider than looks alone. The snapbacks are made from cotton, wool, or polyester or a combination. Does it matter to you if the button or eyelets are the same color as the hat or not? To some this may seem irrelevant, but to others it is important to find just the right look. With so many variations out there a collector will be more discriminate about these things. Some have different color panels, some the whole hat is the same color. Do you care what color the under visor is?

It’s hard to know when a hat will be discontinued or when a new one will come out. A sign that one may soon be unavailable is if the manufacturer puts the hat on sale. Although, this is not always the case. Another sign to look for is if the hat is only now available in certain teams, as opposed to every team in the particular league. Again, this isn’t fool proof. Some hats, for whatever reason can only be located for certain teams.

These hats may come and go like other fads, or they may be here to stay… like blue jeans. The cool thing about them being as popular as they are right now is that there are so many to choose from. Most are really good quality too, as compared to the snapbacks of years ago. This collector hopes they stick around!
